Kanji NAKAJIMA / 中嶋莞爾

Born in 1970. His debut film, Fe (Hagane) (’94), which he directed, wrote, shot, and composed music for won him the Best Newcomer at the Portugal Figueirada fos International Film Festival as well as Grand Prix at UNESCO Art & Pedagogic International Film Festival.
His following piece, The Box (’02), also won a Special Mention at Torino International Film Festival.
The original screenplay of his first piece to be shown in theaters, The Clone Returns Home (’08), won International Filmmakers Award of 2006 at Sundance NHK. In addition, it was the only Japanese film to compete in the World Dramatic Cinema Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009. He has also received formal invitations from various other festivals including Tokyo International Film Festival “Japanese Eye” Official Selection, San Paolo International Film Festival, and Seattle International Film Festival.
He continues to maintain a good reputation overseas; all his work has been released on DVD in the United States and Canada.
